Never Ending Summer Heat Wave

Say what you will but I have had the best intention of riding every weekend. However, this never ending heat wave is keeping me inside and off the bike and I can feel my waistband expanding. 100+ degree temperatures have become normal and I’m sorry that is too hot for me to enjoy riding.

I have taken a few short bike rides just to do errands which I have not logged here because they were just running errands but, I am so frustrated with this weather.

So, I have started cleaning up my torture chamber (basement bike on a trainer) to be more comfortable and to be a place I can hang out in hopes I will start riding more inside if I can’t ride out.

I really hope we get a nice long autumn.

Doing some errands on my bike

The sound of electricity over my head. Riding back home after running some errands I jumped on a bike path under high power lines. You can hear then crackle over your head. There are also warnings that you may be attacked by black birds so no stopping. No doubt the birds have mutated due to the electrical radiation.

Did about 10 miles running errands and just cruising around. Saw some yard sales, bought some lemon-aid from a little kid’s stand, picked up some stuff at the drug store, and stopped by the fire vs police BBQ cook off at Whole Foods for a free burger. Only the firemen were cooking, not sure what happened to the cops I may or may not post the ride details here. There really wasn’t much to it and I rode slow on purpose just to enjoy the day. It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve been out on a bike and I wanted to savor it.

Tomorrow is the Swedish Days ride but, there are thunderstorms in the forecast. I’m packed and ready to go in the morning. Going to keep my fingers crossed it doesn’t rain too hard. I like a little rain. I actually love riding in the rain as long as it’s not coming down too hard.

UPDATE: Downloaded the gps information and it was CRAZY. Looks like the power lines interfered with the satellite tracking.

30 miles round trip. Record high temps today and high winds but I still had a good ride. Riley’s team lost but played a great game. Lily and the rest of the family drove in cars..

My Wilier is getting Jealous. Next real ride will be on my Wilier for sure.

North Branch Trail

PreSchool Parents – Whine and Wine Party

bag and helmet after the rain

Pam and I rode our bikes to the PreSchool Parents – Whine and Wine Party with Lily on the back of my bike. We had a great time but, it got late and a little dark so Pam and Lily got a ride home from one of the parents and I rode home by myself. Then it started to rain. I love riding in the rain, I love riding at night, and the weather was perfect. What a great ride home. Unfortunately, my phone crashed so I couldn’t record the round trip. Instead I just copied the ride out, I took the same ride back.

So that is over 5 miles tonight. Not very many miles but, I did have some fun after work which is really all that counts.

Buddha Ride

Late afternoon ride while Lily napped today. Was crazy hot 91 degrees today.
Took it easy and the ride was more of a mediation than exercise. Seems to be a trend. Stopped by my new favorite bike shop to say hello and get a “ticking” sounds fixed. Still not sure what caused it and neither is their wrench but, it’s fixed.

  • % Max: 78% (Not sure what this is will need to review the manual)

Rabbit mailbox

This is a bunny mailbox from my ride last week. I did about 20 miles on my cruiser bike using MapMyRide to record the ride. The app allows you to take pictures along the way and places then on the route map where they were taken. At least that is what out is suppose to do…

What out did was freak out and a useless, inaccurate, and completely impossible route.
Next ride I will try Endomondo.

For my road bike rides I use a Garmin so my phone keeps a full charge. I know I can upload rides to MapMyRide, wonder of Endomondo does… It doesn’t look like it does. Maybe I can download? I guess I should test Endomondo first.

Here is the route mapped by hand in MapMyRide:
